Greetings all!!
The Loveday Cup ( Week 18 ) this season will comprise of three teams.
In case you haven't seen anything about this before, the Loveday Cup will be our equivalent of the Ryder Cup ie a teams based event. The races will be run in Week 18. It was originally a two team concept, but with the successful growth and competitiveness of SOPL, it's now a three team event, so there's plenty of competition.
England - JV is Captain
Rest Of Europe - Colm is Captain
Rest Of The World - Vallada is Captain
The race to decide this years track will be the Melbourne Cup. Whatever horse wins, the Captain of the team that the winning horse hails from will have choice of turf track venue. The ground conditions will be set as good.
The key principles are:
- three teams England, Rest Of Europe and the Rest Of The World
- one horse per trainer per race
- trainers will nominate horses for the races in TOM
- the captains will each then select the team's horses for the races
- while most of the races will be open, there will also be some restricted races
- all races at one turf venue on good ground
- seven horses per team per race
- no stakes money or points for the various champs (it's about the glory and bragging rights)
- entries would need to close at the same time as close of noms for Week 17 races to allow time for the captains to select the horses - this means that the restricted criteria would apply at the time the entries close
- First five races are Restricted category, all other races are Open (No Banded races)
- In the event that one team is incapable of fielding the full seven slots for a particular race, eg ROW team can only field 5 runners in a restricted race, then the other teams will be reduced to 5 runners to keep the balance, and be fair to all, in that race only.
