What you need:
1. Gallop Racer '06
2. Two memory cards
3. A Max Drive or an X-port
4. Original horse files
Notes: I will be writing this from a max drive point of view, as this is the device I have. Max drive can be bought from the link provided, or, if you're a bargain shopper (like me) you can purchase them on ebay for anywhere from $15-$25.
Step 1:
Load your gallop racer game up, and save game file and system file to both memory cards.
Step 2:
Load Gallop Racer '06 into your ps2. Go to "options" and then go to "load save". It will ask you if you are sure you want to load off the first memory card, hit "ok". Next it will pop up looking to load the same information off the second memory card; select OK.
Step 3:
On the second memory card is where you get to pick and choose which horses are to be entered into the league/be traded/etc. Once you have finished selecting which horses you want, go to "ok" and save that file on the 2nd memory card.
Step 4:
Shut your ps2 off and take gallop racer out. Insert the Max Drive into the USB slot in the front of the ps2, and insert the disc for ps2 that came with your max drive, and run it. Initially a screen comes up saying memory card has been activated. Shut the ps2 off if it says this, and restart it. Hit "X" when the action max previews start to play.
Step 5:
Next is a screen that will ask you for your primary device. Right now, the primary device is memory card 2, seeing as it holds the files that we want to put onto the max drive (NOTE: your horse files will have saved as a GAME file, not an original horse file).
Step 6:
There are several different icons that turn up in the right hand screen; Copy, Move, Delete,Crush, Uncrush(more on the last 2 in a bit).
Right now, we want to copy the Game File from the memory card 2, onto the max drive. Navigate down to Copy in the right hand menu (second down i believe) using the D-pad, and press over (to the right) on the D-pad until you have highlighted the max drive. Press "X" and it will begin to copy.
Step 7:
Once you have finished copying, shut the ps2 off and extract the max drive. Now take the little disc for PC that came with your max drive, and install the software. Now you are ready to plug your max drive into a USB slot on your PC. Windows should find it automatically, and install the new hardware for you. The USB now comes up as a new hard drive under "my computer" where you can access the files you transfered to it. Feel free to start emailing and sharing horses!!
RE: Crush and Uncrush: when a file is saved from the ps2 to the max drive, it crushes (or compresses?) the file. When you save a file to your max drive from the PC, you *must* uncrush it in the max drive menu on the ps2 and then transfer it to a memory card for the game to recognize the file.
Loading a file from the PC to the PS2
Step 1:
This works in generally the same steps as above; you will copy a file you get via email to the max drive on the PC, then insert the Max drive to the ps2 with the max drive disc, and open it up the same as we did before. This time, we must uncrush the file, and then it is your choice if you wish to move it to memory card 2., or copy it.
Step 2:
Once this is done, load gallop racer, and go back to the options menu, and get into your load / save horses file. Load up both games from memory card one, and memory card two (now with the new info on it) and move the horses you want from memory card 2, to memory card one, and save your game file.
Load your season game, and presto, your new horses should be there.
I will be adding more to this FAQ as I come across it; if something dosn't make sense to anyone, please say so! I would like it to be as straight forward as possible.
