First look, and very little to go off of.
May 23, 2007 - There's very little to go off of at this point, but Ubisoft has announced that one of its popular pet franchises (including Dogz, Catz, and Horsez) is getting another iteration, this time on Wii with Horsez 2. This week from its Ubidays event, the company released a couple of screenshots showing the game in action. We may not understand its appeal -- that is, aside from the fact that every little girl wants a pony -- but we're sure it'll find an audience, as Horsez 2 looks to be an amazingly casual game fine-tuned for the Wii crowd.
Based on what we know about the previous efforts, it's easy to predict what Horsez 2 is going to be about. In the first game, players used Nintendogs-like actions to take care of and fully raise their horse. The title challenged gamers to manage everything from training to grooming, with horse morale and real-world conditions affecting their pet's mood and overall heath. The game banked off the virtual pet phenomenon by bringing yet another angel of animal-raising to PS2.
Now that the sequel is headed to Wii, we expect similar treatment, with a Wii focus. Players will undoubtedly brush their horse, ride it, and groom it from head to toe with the Wii remote, using actions or an on-screen cursor to interact with their horse (or horsez, rather) like never before.
It may not be a game we're personally lining up for at the local EB, but if there's a market for this game on home console, it's on Wii. We'll have much more on the project as well as new media, hands-on, and interviews as the game is developed. As for now, be sure to check out the first screenshots and artwork of Horsez 2 by clicking on the gallery below.
