USRA President SOPL International
I realize that this is a public forum and I intend to give wide latitude to posts in any thread where I have moderator responsibilities.
I would like to state unequivocally, for the record, that accusing someone of cheating, even in jest, is problematic at best. These kinds of accusations (even in jest) do nothing to help the SOPL in general or the fledgling USRA in particular. The best one could expect from this is for a few folks to "get" the inside joke. That's a pretty small possible gain versus the huge potential liability to all the leagues when new players (or even veterans) begin to question the ethics of VOLUNTEER staff because of an "off the cuff" comment.
I am a firm believer in the right to free speech and will not censor any post or censure any person for stating what they believe as long as it does not violate forum policy. Having said that, I would like to take this opportunity to reiterate some comments that I have posted in the Starters Orders forum.
It is important to understand that when using a form of communication as extremely limited as the written word, incorrect assessments of meaning and intent are easy to make.
Please be aware that communication between two persons or groups is as much as 90% nonverbal. Nonverbal communication is communication through sending and receiving wordless messages. Nonverbal communication is accomplished by gesture, body language, posture, facial expression and eye contact. Other forms of nonverbal communication include nonverbal speech patterns like voice quality, emotion, local colloquialisms, rhythm, stress and intonation.
The only thing we have to communicate with in these forums is the typewritten word, font styles and emoticons. It is an extremely poor substitute for "face to face" communication
I would ask all of the online racing community here at ORLWorld to take a moment and think about how your posts here could be received by the person intended for the message as well as any other people that would read it.
The responsibility for civil and courteous communication is not limited to the person posting. It is important for the recipient of the message to avoid assessing the intentions of the poster when a post is read. I recommend viewing the communication in the most positive light. After all, most posts are intended to be exactly that, positive.
