Do you have high hopes for any particular horse or horses or do you expect them to be hung out with the washing!
I'll start the ball rolling..
2yo's -
Entered 7 sprinting 2yos (4 UK - 3 US) as theres no point uploading juveniles that want 7f or beyond at this early stage of the season. Not sure where i stand with these as i was only mediocre in this department last season, but i believe they are an improvement now. Flipperty Flap and Storms Clear are two fillies im fond of, and should hopefully go well. King Nitros really shocked me in my trials by proving to be the best at 6f, as it could never win a race in my game
. Out of all my juveniles,
i will pick Invisible Shield as the one most likely to pick up a prize of some sort at the minimum distance, possibly later in the season when
the ground firms up a bit.
Sprinters -
Without a doubt, the most unluckiest horse i had last season was The Most. I had huge expectations of her, only to keep missing the start, Finding all the trouble spots imaginable
. Even now, I still think she
should have beaten Correntina on two occasions had everything gone to plan (but thats just me i guess). Anyhow she returns as a 4yo now, and although no better
than last season, should run some decent races (granted luck of course). She will re-appear in the Cammidge trophy in week 2. Of the other sprinters,
Hayashi and Boxed In Again are pretty speedy but have their quirks. Destroy All and Turbo Bossted
Colt have been sent to race in the US as they appear to trial best on dirt, and both shouldn't really disgrace themselves. Theres no real
improvement with my sprinters to be honest, so im only hopeful at best more than anything else. (especially with Mr Burke around)!
Milers -
Spinning Love was a late recruitment last season, winning and placing in G1's. She returns, and hopefully will pick up some more prizemoney. She will contest all the early top 4yo+ mile races, especially as the ground is likely to be on the soft side. Trained Assasin also returns. Winner of the Champagne Stakes last season and a very unlucky run in the Breeders Cup Juvenile, he will be my representative in the 2000 Guineas. Timewise, my new milers have definately improved and i'm looking forward to seeing Smug Lady and Hedbergs Peak run. Both should be better than average and one will be my 1000 Guineas contender. Not sure which yet, though. Departure Point (dirt specialist but temperamental) and Exceptional will run in the US and both should be useful. Also in this category is the 7f specialists. King Zilla, was one of the best horses at this trip last season and now gets thrashed in my trials, so i'm very much looking forward to seeing the likes of Bondage, Fly On Nitros, Telescopic (dirt) and Ride The Storm competing. All in all, fingers crossed, this should be one of my strongest categories.
Classic -
Possibly, pound for pound, the best horse in my yard is Caught In Flames. Sired by a game-bred, she must have smashed about 9 or 10 track records in my game, and quite clearly trials better than anything else at 10f (and 11f for that matter). This filly is the one horse i'm looking forward to see more than any other (Don't let me down now
)!
Revolving Doors has been sent to america, as he seems to come alive on the dirt. He likes to race up with the pace, stays on well and will
contest the big classic races. I have some 9f specialists, which all have been sent to the US as there are lots of races at this distance. I am quite keen on
them. Look Out and Nun Too Good should both be useful, but Pyrohobia (a fear of fire, if
you didn't know) could and should be the best of these. This daughter of Caught in Flames will run in the UAE Derby after winning her
maiden
. (okay, a bit optimistic but hey!).
Turf -
I really don't know how my mile and a half horses will go, as i dont really have a benchmark horse. Under The Sun would probably just about be my best horse here, acts on any ground and at the moment, is probably my Derby contender. Good is Less (4yo), Running Machine (possible Oaks runner), Muggins (US) and Sezmore (4yo & US) all trialed ok. There are no Monsters here
and will sit on the fence as to how they will fare.
Basically, i wont hold my breath.
Stayers -
Three horses here who like the ledger trip. Flaming Heck, Whats The Catch and Saintly Sin. All three trial well and should be useful. Not sure which races or what route to go with these yet but Saintly Sin will run in the week 1 maiden over 1m6f as he goes wery well on the dirt. I don't really know which is the best of these, but if pushed i would go for Whats The Catch. She seems to drop out early in her races, sometimes even tailed off, but when the jockey gets a good tune out of her she can really fly home.. in good times too. She wont be seen out too often, early in the season until theres more sun about. I only have one 2 miler in the stable (which is one more than last season). Although i dont really have a benchmark horse in my trials here, i do think the 4yo Magical Powers wont be the worst in the league, and seems versatle as trip (1m7f-2m1f) and type of surface is concerned.
Iron Horses -
Or should that say Iron Horse. I only have one. Treacherous is my only representative here and can run from 2m-2m3f. Unfortunatly the maximum Gold Cup trip looks like it will be a furlong too far for her
. Having
said that though, i think she has the class to run well in some of the other big marathon races. This also depends on the pace in these races. Last season,
virtually all of these long races were ran at a snail pace, and if this happens again she may just get bogged down.
National Hunt -
Nothing. I don't do jumps.
2 to Follow - Caught in Flames, Pyrophobia.
Well that's the run down of my stable, my thoughts, hopes and aspirations for this season coming. Feel free to write about your hopes... it's always interesting and enjoyable to read other peoples thoughts.
Just want to say thanks to the people involved in getting this league up and running for the new season (Colm and Dodgy in particular) and say GL to everyone taking part this season.. including the new trainers.
