I really am sorry to criticize on the release date but I was hoping for better than this.

Anyone else just thoroughly disappointed with SO3? I'm trying to be objective and I really want to like it but right now it's a complete letdown. The
graphics are absolutely horrible imo, a huge step backwards. The horses look cartoonish now. Another complaint I have is that there are the exact same
limited number of horse pictures. There weren't that many to begin with and those were just transferred over? Why not add 20+ new pictures for each
color. It couldn't have been that hard to do.
I really am sorry to criticize on the release date but I was hoping for better than this. |

I like the graphics. The colors are more vivid, the horses are bigger. This makes it easy to see.
Since the horses are bigger, I could actually see when my jock checks, or scrubs, or whips even (so some I'd like to shoot already when I told them not to trail & they check up for no reason & make the horse last, lol). I like the race commentary. I like the text size is bigger & easier to read. There are a few small things I'd like a little bit better, but won't even mention it. |

You get used to the graphics after a while. A small thing though it would be nice to have more colours to choose from. In fact the colours from SO2 where
better. My grey silks have gone
On another note 3 seasons into the game and was leading by about 6 lengths in the grand national and my horse fell at the last fence had Scudamore on (not my favourite virtual jockey at the moment although he has
won two group 1's for me)
Playing on hard got a few lucky buys for under 10k and managed to sell one for 700k
Have everything now (breeding barn, etc ). One other thing having to pay twice if your mare does not get impregnated seems a bit unrealistic. You shouldn't have to pay every time you try use a non player horse on the same mare in the same season. All in all after only 3 seasons and am enjoying the game |

Graphics take time to adjust. This was the first thing I was critical off beta testing but after a few days they grew on me. Had some good ones in beta testing
that I couldnt take over to a new game. Had a 5 time Cheltenham Gold Cup winner and another one that won 11 group one 12f events and 5 group one jump events
(would have made a super stallion). Done that in 8 seasons. Yet to start a game in the final build. Thought I might let you guys get a day or two on me
My biggest disappointment in the game would be the lack of jockey colours. There is actually less than SO2. Hopefully this can be patched with time as having 10 colours of jackets, caps and sleeves that overlay each other could have provide a potential 1000 different combinations. I know Mark received the graphics late so wasnt able to incorporate it in this one but hopefully down the track he can |

I have always said graphics isnt a issue with me .but playability is u can always add the finishing touches to graphics but u cant always get playability right
Having played the game for last 2 days.. the graphics are ok as someone has already said they grow on you but the playability tho isnt as good as SO2 yet but im sure it will get there eventually im enjoying the jumps immensely as its the 1st game since the late 70's (Grand National a game by Empire Games of Liverpool..played on the old Sinclair Spectrum)) that ive had a game designed for myself in mind some of it is very realistic in the big races if ur stuck out the back you keep getting baulked in your run just like the real thing the likes of the Grand National is a prime example of this.. i would not critique this game in the early stages as this was similar to the introduction of the 1st 2 games SO1 & 2,,but look at those 2 games now.. we really were spoiled for fun once we all get used to it we will all wonder what the fuss was about.. once the occasional patch comes about ..prob already in pipeline..the game will blossom im sure just like the previous two entities did.. Paul May your glass be ever full.

Ok
Graphics at first did seem a bit dodge, but I have gotten used to them and the actual jockey animations are much clearer in this version. Maybe some future patch will sort out the slightly cartoonish gloss on the graphics. But if you want to compare SO to other sports stategy sims. e.g The Football Manager/Championship manager series....those games are based on deep statistical simulation & realism with little emphasis on graphics and they have been very successful. In fact the graphics in the Fooball Manager series have rarely changed.Basically it consists of a minimal 2D football pitch with 2 teams of 11 dots chasing an even smaller dot of a football, with added sound effects and football chants. That series is mega succesful and their users don't have many hang ups over the graphics. They see past them for what the game is, a very deep, Strategy simulation for soccer. I'm sure Strategic Designs will hit the jackpot with the graphics somewhere in the evolution of this series, whether independantly or within a future graphic design partnership. But at least we have such a game as Starters Orders 3, with a dedicated team of developers at ground level who answer and support the Q&A on this very forum. A team that makes the effort to please it's client base by improving the game regularly with each release. Because you will be waiting a long time for the likes of Koei are to release an English version of Winning Post on any platform to the english speaking world. For Koei need to know they're gonna make trillions of £/$/€ before they please us. Tnx Strategic Designs for SO3.
