Hi,

Not sure where to put this, but this seems like the most active forum for SO3 right now.

Should I play this on easy, normal or hard? The instructions aren't very precise about it.

In fact they say when playing on Normal or Hard, the horses are worse, less money to be made, period. No mention of anything else re: horses.

So it seems pointless to play anything but easy.

At least you'd get good horses for breeding on easy (sounds like).

I'd just like to know others opinions before the SOPL SO3 league starts in 2 months.

I don't want to spend 2 months playing on easy, then find out I had to play on Normal or Hard to be competitive in the SOPL league. I'd be 2 months behind everybody then & never catch up.

Hmmmm....well to be honest, your guess is as good as anyone else's. The only person who would know for sure would be Mark.

Personally if what you say is absolutely accurate, I am going to set mine on Easy. The reason being is that I am going to be competing in the USRA of the SOPL International. If I only intended to play in single player mode for my duration with SO3, I would probably play on Hard Mode. Knowing that I am going to be competing against the best trainers of the Starters Orders series in the entire world, I am going for every edge that I can get. I don't want to waste time struggling in Hard Mode when I can probably produce better performers quicker in Easy Mode. And getting them ready in time for the SOPL International Inaugural Season is what is most important to me in playing SO3.

I'm guessing that Jim is right though what it really depends on is whether in Easy mode you get better horses at auction as well as in your stable to start with. If that is the case then you definitely need to run on easy mode if developing a stable for the league as you will build your breeding stock more quickly.

I've not even got my license key yet so have not really had a chance to figure it out but will probably start in easy mode anyhow..

I've been playing on hard for about 10 seasons now, and it's damn hard I'll tell ya!

Surely once you get a good horse on "Hard" wouldn't it be better than a good horse on "Easy", simple because the standard of horses in hard mode are higher than those at easy?

It's quite a grey area.

Into my fourth season on hard and although I'm doing well in jumps have found the flat harder which is a good thing. ( Have only placed in a group 1 and won the Derby trial )

I may have just fluked the horse that I bought for 60k that has won two world hurdles but I'm not complaining

I got this off the website promotion:

Three difficulty levels. (effects betting, starting cash, starting horses number, max bets, quality/potential and non player trainers horse training ability )

I would assume that "quality/potential and non player trainers horse training ability" means better horses overall and tougher competition in the hard mode.

You only get two horses and 50k when you start in hard and its much harder to buy group winners as not many come up in the daily auctions and they expensive. Pretty hard to win a group 1 but much more enjoyable as a result(only into 4th season though). Haven't played the other levels. You still get good money for your horse, at the auction, if you win a claiming race though so its still relatively easy to build up money if you buy cheap young horses and then win a race with them

As far as the horses go the level of the difficulty affects the quality of the non player horses and not the player horses. So the difficulty level of the game the horse came from has no effect on the horse quality and doesn't matter. Obviously a horse coming from a 'harder' game is likely to have a more modest game record though. - Mark Loveday

Well there is your definitive statement guys and gals, on the Easy - Hard Modes and how it affects the time it will take you to get higher quality homebreds.

To be honest haven't played around with the levels of difficulty but if there are more quality horses in the harder version then there is more potential to breed with a good horse, whether you pick it up at the daily auction or spend one season breeding with it in the breeding screen
