I hoped he'd win, but didn't think he'd do it so handily! Can't wait for the Preakness now! My happiness is marred, of course, as Eight Belles was my 2nd pick, and she broke both front ankles and had to be put down almost on the spot. Makes you remember how fragile these horses can be. RIP sweetie.

Must have been one heck of a bad step as she was cooling down, who knows. It just bothers me now that PETA is jumping all over this and trying to use it as a cause to push their over-the-top agenda. But wow, Big Brown! he was my pick before the race but I had serious doubts due to his lack of races and that crazy post position.. but he truly is a freak!

The only ones who listen to PETA are other PETA members. I have a friend whose wife is a PETA member and I have sport with her every now and then just to get a rise from her at social events. I just can't keep from laughing over the outrageous statements that come out of her mouth!

And then the tragedy of it is by the time they grow into their bodies the breeding money is impossible to ignore and then they go off to stud in their prime.

Start their training and racing as 3yos when their bodies have developed more and then start their serious races as 4yos including the Triple Crown and Breeders Cup races. That of course, would move the majority of the feature races up to start with 4yos as well. I know that could get me tarred and feathered in most parts of the country.
