But as a commentator i wont be calling these horses home.... the odd one is not so bad but having a virtual stable-full is beyond the pale i suggest a radical re-think is in order for this trainer we are all here for a bit of fun ..not to take the mickey out of everyone names like milf etc are not innocent and as other people have mentioned minors can easily look up these names on the net Paul

A couple new players submitted horses with questionable names and I rejected them. They apologized and never did it again. I would be probably considered old fashioned in this area, but this is my reasoning for it. I want young people enthused about real world and fantasy horse racing which means that I want them on this Board. That means that I want this Board to stay clean so that their moms feel totally comfortable with them communicating with all of you. I do not want moms seeing questionable language of any kind on this board which would cause them concern about their children being here. That is my biggest concern about questionable language. I know that parents are becoming increasingly concerned about what their children are involved with on the internet and I never want them to be concerned about us. So all that are reading this, please keep this in mind when you are naming your horses. Don't be clever with word plays or you might lose some really good horses in your league stables. You have millions of words to choose from so just keep the names on the up and up and they will never be called into question.

First up we can agree on one thing based on your comments, most of the people posting in this thread claiming that having a few inappropriate names if the rest are fine is not acceptable. So then all I am asking for is some transparency on where the line is and an explanation of why I have been singled out while more established stables are not coming under the same scrutiny. Let me ask you Jim, what is the difference between What the Feck or Go and Get Funked? Others are mine retired are Big Black Beaver, Sir Cumsizer, Long Shlong Tom and The Fister Returns. Retiring all of these makes no sense at all and wouldnt you agree that they are far more appropriate than names like Nice Rack, Master Baiter, Evil Sprog and Thing From Uranus? Other horses in my stable havnt been retired but dont seem to be in the race I entered them in but because nothing has been communicated I dont no if they are just scratched, going to be retired or just sitting there in limbo for some reason. Anyway I hope that makes sense.

Those familiar with an Irish Comedy Show, Father Ted will know where this came from. I dont want to get into a debate as to whether Who the Feck is as bad as Go And Get Funked. Both allude to an offensive word and I for one am truly sorry if anyone has been offended by the name of my horse. I agree completely that we need to welcome minors to the forums and leagues and inappropriate names should be eradicated. I would therefore be willing to have my horse removed from the league - despite the fact that she is one of the top horses in the league! Alternatively, and I think possibly the best solution - can we re-name the horses in question. I'm not sure how difficult/time consuming this would be and would need to be guided by the experts here. I dont want Dodgy and Co. having to do overtime on top of their already hectic schedules. Look forward to your responses. Regards Paul Tweddle

Since all linking is done not by name but a unique ID and since linking back to the upload file is done by the file name changing it is just a matter of knowing the unique id (which you can get just by clicking on the horse) and adjusting it in the horses table. I know the trainer name can be changed in SO2 but not sure of the horse name however. In any case Mr Tweddle, I would hate to see Who The Feck go. I am looking forward to some great further battles with her

To be honest IMO go and get Funked is not the worst named horse in Banderson's stable but as many others have stated its a question of quantity and intention.

Anyway I hope that makes sense. Well, first off I feel your pain. You obviously did not know there would be a restriction on names in this way or I am sure you would not have even risked it. I really don't want to see anyone lose horses that they have worked many hours in getting into SOPL-shape. I have not been following the names of horses for some time, because they have pretty much stayed in the PG13 boundary. Second, I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT THE SOPL STAFF HAVE NOT ONE OUNCE OF A DESIRE TO SINGLE OUT NEW PLAYERS IN THE SOPL AND GIVE THEM A BAD TIME. The philosphy in the ORLWorld since day one, is to make all horse racing gaming fans feel welcome in this organization and that is true to this day. Saying or doing rude or worse things that make others feel uncomfortable in these forums will get an entirely different response from the Moderators and the various leagues' staffs. Guidelines, guidelines. The main thing is this, don't try to be cute with names or subject matters that you know good and well are questionable. There are a few other names that I have read above that have raised my eyebrows a wee bit I will admit as well, but I am not ready to remove them from the league. Unfortunately, you had so many questionable that it is not surprising that they caught some of the staff's attention. As U.S. Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart in 1964 tried to explain "hard-core" pornography, or what is obscene, by saying, "I shall not today attempt further to define the kinds of material I understand to be embraced . . . but I know it when I see it . . ." So what does this mean? It means that the guidelines are subjective based on whoever is in charge of determing such things and that is the way it will probably always be. If I was in charge of this, I would most likely be a bit more strict. That is based on my own opinion of what is tasteful. Everyone else will have their own opinions on it as well. So the real fact is that everyone really knows (if they didn't before) when they are teetering close to the line or have stuck a toe over it. My advice is to just put some distance between your horses' names and that line so they will stand up to scrutiny from anyone who is in charge of this area. Why even come close to jeopardizing all of the hard work that you have put into your stables? Question to the staff. Is there any way at this time, the league-only Race Construction Kit can change horse's names? If not, I am then going to ask Mark Loveday if he can program into the League-only Race Construction Kit, the ability to change horses' names. If this feature is only in the League-only Race Construction Kit, it will be well regulated by the SOPL President and other staff. Then if player new to the SOPL has questionable horse names that person can be notified and given a certain amount of time to choose new names for them and this will be a thing of the past. For obvious reasons, we would need to ensure that the renaming of horses was tightly controlled - I'm not sure if there's some checksum value we could use to ensure each horse file is unique.

Posts: 2960 (04/01/08 11:07 PM) Vice President National Hunt Club SOPL International Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts Report Post	I do not want to see Draconian values attached to the league...just a little common-sense on the part of participants I am not a prude ..far from it but their are places for this sort of thing and not a worldwide forum such as ours I remember the incident in the early days of the league..that trainer was very unhappy too..i would not like that to happen here again I want to welcome everyone here regardless of race or creed..the more the merrier i say The name changing suggested by Jim and others would be an ideal solution to this situation and nothing like this should occur in the future So please dont think that anyone is singling any one trainer out..i would be one of the 1st to leave this community if censorship raised its ugly head Anyone that has lived the last 20 years of the 20th Century in NI like i have would know all about censorship..it wasnt very pleasant i can tell you all i am asking is that ppl use their heads and not be controversial in naming their horses but instead be creative I would ask Paul T not to pull out his horse...not because its a good horse but having the odd horse with a colloquilism..is fine by me I loved Father Ted myself...and feck is a word often used in Ireland ...and no-one used innuendo's more than my fav comedian Benny Hill (both can be found on Utube) I know hard it is to find a good horse and to have it removed because of a faux-pas on my part would be hard to take for me Heres hoping the trainer in question gets a winner very very soon ..
